About Me:

I've had a life-long interest in religion and spirituality. I appreciate the efforts of religion and spirituality to make normal everyday life and experiences as sacred and special. With that said, I also understand the futility and often humorous stupidity of any efforts to make life more meaningful or better than it actually is. I want to really be present and in harmony with the other person with which I am interacting. I am constantly looking to understand better the life I have, the world around me, and living appropriately according to that knowledge. I enjoy meeting new people and learning all about them (their beliefs, culture, and interests). The truth is larger than me, beyond my desires and experiences, so I seek humility and enlightenment from others in order to live completely. I seek to promote this goal by living healthy and seeking knowledge and wisdom. I also wish to promote and further peace and unity with others through dialogue and cooperative social action.

Professionally, I want to work in hospice providing spiritual and psychological assistance to terminally ill individuals and their loved ones during this sacred and normal part of life. I also want to engage in peace building through community dialogue and development according to the interests of the members. I have several years experience working in hospice providing patient/family care and grief counseling, as well as peace building/violence prevention through a community dialogue group between Muslims/Arabs and Christians/Americans after 9/11 and violence prevention work by providing services and support to current/former gang members, at-risk youth, ex-cons, and survivors of a loved one's homicide. Life is both good and bad, wonderful and painful, light and dark. I feel a need to confront, understand, accept, and work for change in both goodness and badness, as it all depends upon perspective.

I have a BA in Religious Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I recently completed a Master’s in Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Currently I am a Master of Divinity student at Naropa University.

I’d like to meet someone, friend or otherwise, who is compassionate, interested in social justice, learning about the world, and trying new things. What is important to me is finding balance, discipline, and holistic health in my life, as I am restless unless I reach this; however, I do not want to achieve it at the expense of others. It would be great to be able to journey with someone who is interested in looking beyond their own perspective and going into the unknown. This can sometimes be very frightening and disconcerting, because we lose control; however, it is also very rewarding since we come to see a new side to this very complex thing we call life. I think that life needs to be truly experienced with another person, no matter what their perspective or upbringing. Life is too complex to be pigeon-holed into something as being just “good” or “bad” or “smart” or “stupid”, “male” or “female.” We are humans first and that connects us. Life is what it is. Enjoy it.
